Nostalgie Ya Mboka is dedicated to ensuring that the music of DR Congo is properly heard and appreciated. As such we have already worked with some small labels looking to reissue classic recordings of Congo music. The CDs shown above have all been released with the help of Nostalgie Ya Mboka, both through the selection/compilation of original recordings held in our archives and through our sometimes playing the role of broker between the label and the artist. Nostalgie Ya Mboka is committed to ensuring that older Congolese music is made available so that both its musical and cultural importance will never be forgotten and its legacy may continue forever.
PAPA WEMBA & VIVA LA MUSICA
This www site was constructed in 1998, way back when there was very little available on Congolese music on the www. Our aim was to make available important historical background information on the artist who has probably done more than anyone else to take Congolese music into an international arena. We also sought to provide information on the many musicians who passed through the ranks of his orchestra - Viva La Musica - and once again, at the time of publishing (1998) much of this information was unavailable in ANY written format. Even in print there was and still is, little reliable information on Congo music, and certainly some of that published often seeks to promote the writer more than the artist. Our aim was to redress this imbalance. We hope you'll take the time to investigate this site which contains more than 10,000 words, 300+ images and more than 18 Quicktime audio clips covering a 30+ year period.
